A View of “Almost, Maine” from the Stage

This past April, The Bay Spring Community Center opened its doors to Arts Alive! for their performance of Almost, Maine. The group of 13 high school students in the Arts Alive! Master Class rehearsed weekly in the BSCC in preparation for the event.

The show was directed by Dena Davis, the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Arts Alive. “Almost, Maine,” written by John Cariani, is a bittersweet compilation of vignettes that take place in the beautiful and strange town of Almost, Maine.

The BSCC served as a perfectly simple venue for such an intimate play, and Davis elaborated that this was “not only because the space gave us a wonderful atmospheric rustic feel of Maine, quite appropriate for the play in mid-winter (!) but also, because the space itself was so perfect for our needs. Above all, the family-feel of all those involved in caring for the building and taking care of our needs in such a warm and personal way was really wonderful. It is a true community center and a great home for artists to create and share.”
