Barrington Emergency Preparedness Week

The Town of Barrington, sponsored in part through a grant from the RI Department of Health, will be holding an Emergency Preparedness Week(August 14th– 18th). During that timeframe the Town will host a series of WORKSHOPSaimed at providing information to residents on preventative measures to mitigate health threats that are becoming more prevalent with changes in the climate.

For example, as the Northeast experiences warmer summers and more extreme-heat days, health conditions, including respiratory diseases and cardiac problems can be exacerbated. The changing climate is also altering ecological conditions which support a longer mosquito and tick season. Preventative measures residents can take to help mitigate these health risks will be presented at several of the Emergency Preparedness Week Workshops. Additionally, since the most prevalent natural hazard facing the Town of Barrington is flooding, information on flood safety and emergency preparedness will also be discussed and there will be an opportunity for residents to help develop and evaluate mitigation measures for a number of Barrington’s coastal areas prone to flooding.

We invite the community to participate in the Emergency Preparedness Week Events which are all FREE and open to the public. More information on each of the Workshops is available on the Town website.
